Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know — organised by topic. Can't find what you need? Get in touch and I'll answer personally.

How much does a website cost?

Fixed-price packages start from $1,500 — full details on the pricing page. For custom projects I will provide a tailored quote with no obligation.

Will I be able to update it myself?

Yes. Every site comes with a CMS walkthrough so you can update content, add pages, and manage images without touching code. I also offer maintenance plans if you would prefer to hand that off entirely.

How long does it take?

Most package projects are delivered in two to four weeks from kick-off. Larger custom builds typically take 4–8 weeks depending on complexity and content readiness.

Do you offer ongoing support?

Absolutely. Monthly maintenance plans cover updates, backups, security monitoring, and support. You are never left to figure it out alone after launch.

What do you need from me to get started?

Just a conversation. A free discovery call to understand your business and goals. From there I will put together a clear proposal with scope, timeline, and a fixed price. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

What platform do you recommend?

It depends on your needs and budget. I work with Statamic, WordPress, Craft, Wagtail, and other platforms — each has different strengths. I will recommend the best fit for your situation after understanding your requirements.

Can you handle everything, or do I need other contractors?

For the vast majority of small business projects, I handle everything end-to-end — design, development, copywriting guidance, SEO, hosting setup, and launch. If you need something outside my scope (like custom photography), I'll let you know upfront.

Do I need to sign a long-term contract?

No. Project work is quoted on a fixed-price basis with no ongoing lock-in. Maintenance plans are month-to-month — you can cancel anytime. I'd rather earn your ongoing business by doing good work than hold you to a contract.

Can you fix or update my existing website?

Sometimes. If the code is relatively clean I can offer maintenance and fixes. However, if the site is built on an outdated theme or has security issues, it is often more cost-effective to rebuild it properly from scratch. I'll give you an honest assessment upfront.

Do you provide hosting?

Yes. I offer managed hosting on PHAS — fast Australian servers with data centres in Sydney and Melbourne. This includes SSL certificates, daily backups, uptime monitoring, and software updates — so you don't have to worry about the technical details.

Do you do graphic design as well?

Yes, I design every website I build. I can also help with basic logo design and branding for small businesses starting from scratch, or a visual refresh for an established brand.

Do you only work with Tasmanian businesses?

Primarily yes, but I work remotely with clients anywhere in Australia. That said, most of my portfolio is Tasmanian — I understand the local market, the customer expectations, and what makes a business credible to a Tasmanian audience.

Can I see more examples of your work?

The projects shown here are a selection — I have more work across different industries. Get in touch and I can share relevant examples based on your business type and what you're trying to achieve.

Will my site actually rank in Google?

Every site I build includes technical SEO foundations — proper structure, meta tags, schema markup, fast load times, and Core Web Vitals compliance. That gives you a strong base. Ongoing ranking growth depends on content and backlinks over time, which I can help with separately.

What if I need changes after launch?

I offer monthly maintenance plans that cover small content updates, security patches, and backups. For larger additions, we can scope a new phase of work at an agreed rate. Most clients stay on a plan — it gives them peace of mind and keeps me across the site.

Who provides the text and images?

Typically you are responsible for content. I'll provide clear content outlines to guide you on what's needed for each page. If you need help, I can connect you with professional copywriters and photographers, or we can include copywriting as part of the scope.

Do you use templates or page builders?

No. Every site I build is custom-designed and hand-coded from scratch. No WordPress page builders, no purchased themes. This means better performance, better security, and a site that does exactly what you need it to do.

Will my site work on mobile?

Always. Mobile-first design is non-negotiable and built into every project. I test across multiple devices and screen sizes before launch. The majority of web traffic is now mobile, so this is treated as the baseline — not an afterthought.

Contact

Do you work with clients outside of Burnie?

Yes, absolutely. While I'm based in Burnie, a large portion of my clients are in Devonport, Launceston, Hobart, and mainland Australia. We communicate effectively via Zoom, email, and phone — distance is rarely a barrier.

How quickly do you respond?

I aim to reply to all enquiries within 1 business day. If you contact me on a Friday afternoon, you'll likely hear back on Monday morning.

Do you offer white-label services for agencies?

Yes, I frequently partner with design agencies and marketing firms to handle their development overflow. Get in touch to discuss how we can work together.

Can we meet in person?

If you're in Burnie or surrounding areas (Wynyard, Devonport, Ulverstone), I'm happy to arrange a coffee meeting for serious project discussions. Otherwise, Zoom works perfectly.

What if I'm not sure what I need?

That's completely fine — most people aren't. Just send me a message with a rough idea and I'll help you figure out the best approach. No commitment required.

Do you charge for initial consultations?

No, the initial discovery call (usually 30 minutes) is free. This helps us both decide if we're a good fit for the project.

Are your websites hosted in Australia?

Yes. My managed hosting infrastructure uses PHAS — data centres in Sydney and Melbourne — to ensure the fastest possible load times for Australian visitors.

Pricing

View page →
Are the prices fixed, or can they change?

Yes — all package prices are fixed and agreed in writing before any work begins. You will never receive a surprise invoice. The only time a price changes is if you request additional work that falls outside the original scope, which we agree on separately before proceeding.

What if my project needs more than what is in a package?

Packages are a starting point, not a ceiling. If your project needs something extra — additional pages, custom integrations, copywriting — I'll quote those additions separately and clearly before proceeding.

Is GST included in the prices shown?

All prices shown on this page are inclusive of GST. You will receive a proper tax invoice for your records.

Is hosting included in the website packages?

Hosting is not included in the one-time build price — it is a separate ongoing cost through PHAS. I will set it all up for you and can manage it as part of a maintenance plan. See the hosting plans section for pricing.

What are the payment terms?

Projects are split into two payments: a 50% deposit to secure your start date, and the remaining 50% when the site is ready to launch. For hourly work, invoices are issued on completion with 7-day payment terms.

Can I upgrade from one package to another later?

Yes. If you start with the Starter package and later need blog functionality, extra pages, or other features, we can scope and price those additions. You are never locked in.

Do you offer payment plans?

For larger projects I can arrange a split payment schedule beyond the standard structure. Get in touch to discuss — I'm flexible for the right project.

Do you work with clients outside of Tasmania?

Yes. While I'm based in Burnie and love working with local Tasmanian businesses, I work with clients across Australia. Everything is handled remotely via email and video call — no travel required.
