Discovery

1 week

Understanding your business properly.

We dig into your business, your customers, and your competitors. This shapes everything that follows — site structure, messaging, and technology choices all come from this foundation. Skipping this step is why so many sites get built that look fine but don't actually work.

  • Competitor analysis
  • Sitemap & content planning
  • Tech stack recommendation

Your side

  • Provide brand assets — logo, fonts, colour palette
  • Share access to existing DNS and hosting accounts
  • Point me to competitors or sites you admire

My side

  • Research your industry and local competitors
  • Plan the sitemap and content structure
  • Recommend the right CMS and tech stack for your needs

Design

1–3 weeks

No surprises in the build.

Before a single line of code is written, you review high-fidelity mockups of the key pages. You'll see the layout, colours, typography, and imagery working together — a proper representation of the finished site, not a sketch. We have two rounds of feedback and you sign off before development begins.

  • Wireframing key page layouts
  • High-fidelity UI design
  • Two rounds of feedback & revisions
Design Mockups Style Guide

Your side

  • Provide written content — copy, images, video
  • Review mockups and give specific, actionable feedback
  • Use the two allocated rounds — not an open-ended back-and-forth

My side

  • Design to your brand, goals, and audience
  • Present complete mockups — not rough starting points
  • Incorporate feedback efficiently within the agreed rounds

Build

2–6 weeks

Clean code. No page builders.

The approved design becomes a working website. Clean, semantic code — no bloated page builders, no unnecessary plugins. CMS configured, content populated, integrations connected. The staging site is fully tested before you're asked to review it.

  • CMS setup & configuration
  • Frontend development
  • Content population & integrations

Your side

  • Deliver any remaining content promptly
  • Give timely feedback when the staging site is ready
  • Consolidate all feedback into one round — not a drip feed

My side

  • Build to the approved design — no improvised changes
  • Test across browsers and devices before requesting review
  • Optimise for Core Web Vitals — targeting 100 on Lighthouse

How It Works

What to expect when you work with a local web designer.

A clear process, no jargon, and regular updates — so you're never left wondering what's happening.

One of the most common complaints I hear from Tasmanian businesses is that their previous web designer wasn't technically strong — common errors that should have been caught, or templated boilerplate sites that were just a rebrand of the same layout pushed out to every client. My process is designed to be the opposite of that.

Every project starts with a discovery conversation — I ask about your business, your customers, your goals, and what you've tried before. From there, I put together a clear proposal with a fixed price, a defined scope, and a realistic timeline. Once approved, I design a concept for your review before any development begins, so we're aligned before I write a line of code.

Communication throughout the build

You'll hear from me at every major milestone — design approval, staging review, and launch. Most clients prefer to stay hands-off until feedback is needed, and that works perfectly. If you'd rather keep a closer eye on progress, I can set up a Trello board to track deliverables. Either way, by the time we reach launch, you'll have reviewed and approved every section of your site, and you'll know exactly how to make basic updates yourself.

After launch, every project includes a support period where I'm available to fix anything that needs attention. For businesses that want ongoing help, my maintenance plans cover updates, backups, and priority support on a monthly basis. Get in touch to start the conversation.

Process FAQ

Common questions,
straight answers.

Don't see what you're looking for? Send me a message and I'll get back to you personally — usually within a few hours.

What if I need changes after launch?

I offer monthly maintenance plans that cover small content updates, security patches, and backups. For larger additions, we can scope a new phase of work at an agreed rate. Most clients stay on a plan — it gives them peace of mind and keeps me across the site.

Who provides the text and images?

Typically you are responsible for content. I'll provide clear content outlines to guide you on what's needed for each page. If you need help, I can connect you with professional copywriters and photographers, or we can include copywriting as part of the scope.

Do you use templates or page builders?

No. Every site I build is custom-designed and hand-coded from scratch. No WordPress page builders, no purchased themes. This means better performance, better security, and a site that does exactly what you need it to do.

Will my site work on mobile?

Always. Mobile-first design is non-negotiable and built into every project. I test across multiple devices and screen sizes before launch. The majority of web traffic is now mobile, so this is treated as the baseline — not an afterthought.
