Pro Art Signs and Designs provides signage and printing services across Australia. The build was completed under the government's Small Business Digital Champions Project — a program that selected established small businesses for a full digital transformation. The brief covered the entire customer journey: a Shopify storefront for catalogue purchases, a bespoke design-your-own-signage application sitting alongside it, and a set of API integrations connecting both to the print and signage tools the business already uses to fulfil orders.

The Project

A signage business, properly digital end to end.

Pro Art Signs needed more than an online store — they needed customers to be able to design their own signage and have those designs flow straight into the existing print workflow.

Pro Art Signs and Designs was selected for the government's Small Business Digital Champions Project — a program designed to take established small businesses through a proper digital transformation rather than just shipping them a generic website. The selection meant the brief could be ambitious; the result needed to genuinely change how the business operates online.

The build had three layers. The first was a Shopify storefront for the catalogue side — pre-designed signage products that customers can buy off the shelf in standard sizes and finishes. The second was a bespoke design-your-own-signage application, sitting alongside the storefront, giving customers the ability to design custom signage from scratch and add the result to their cart in the same checkout flow. Building that integration cleanly meant the application had to feel like part of Shopify rather than a bolted-on third-party tool.

The third layer was the back-end integration work. Pro Art Signs already had a print and signage workflow they used to fulfil orders. The new system needed to feed orders — both standard and custom-designed — straight into that workflow, with the right files, dimensions, and specifications attached. Custom API integrations handle that piece, so the team isn't re-keying customer designs into a separate system every time an order comes through.

The end result is a signage business that can compete on the kind of personalised, design-your-own customer experience usually reserved for much larger operations — without the operational chaos of running three disconnected systems at once.
