Barker's Carpet Cleaning
Migration of a North West Tasmanian carpet cleaning business from an outdated, bloated static site onto a streamlined WordPress build — keeping every feature that mattered, throwing out the rest.
Overview
barkerscarpetcleaning.com.auBarker's Carpet Cleaning is a long-running carpet cleaning business serving the North West coast of Tasmania. The existing site had been built years earlier on a bespoke static foundation that had become genuinely difficult to maintain — heavy JavaScript libraries, layers of unused code, and a structure that made even small updates an undertaking. The brief was a clean migration to WordPress: keep every feature that was actually being used, drop everything that wasn't.

The Project
A long-running local business, finally on the right platform.
An old static site weighed down by years of accumulated JavaScript and unused code, migrated to a properly maintainable WordPress build.
Barker's Carpet Cleaning has been around long enough to have built up genuine word-of-mouth reputation across the North West coast. The website had been doing the basic job for years, but the technical foundation had become a problem in itself: a static build layered with heavy JavaScript libraries, accumulated code that no-one could explain the purpose of, and an editing experience the owner couldn't sensibly use without help.
The work started with an audit — what does the site actually do, what does it actually need to do, and what's just sitting there because no-one's removed it? Most websites that have been running for several years have a surprising amount of the third category. Barker's was no exception.
The migration moved the site to WordPress, with a clean custom theme, only the plugins genuinely needed, and a content structure that the owner can update without involving a developer. Page load times improved substantially as a side effect of just stripping out the JavaScript libraries that weren't being used. The enquiry flow was tightened so that someone landing on the homepage can get to "request a quote" in one click on any device.
