Fred and Hannah
Setting up and customising a commercial WordPress theme for a Tasmanian photography duo who weren't able to get the off-the-shelf build over the line themselves — including a redesigned navigation and social sharing throughout.
Overview
fredandhannah.comFred and Hannah are a Tasmanian photography duo who had already purchased a commercial WordPress theme they liked the look of, but had hit the usual wall — commercial themes promise a lot in their demos and require a surprising amount of work to actually configure for a real business. The brief was to take what they'd bought and turn it into a working, polished website, then add the customisations they actually needed on top.
What we did
- Theme analysis and customisation planning
- Full site setup from purchased theme
- Custom navigation layout
- Social sharing functionality
- Visual and structural refinements
- Mobile-first responsive build

The Project
A bought-in theme, finally turned into a working website.
Fred and Hannah had the theme, the photography, and a clear vision — what they didn't have was the technical patience to wrestle a commercial WordPress theme into shape.
Fred and Hannah are a photography duo working across Tasmania — the kind of business where the visual side absolutely has to be right, because the website is effectively a portfolio and a sales pitch in one. They'd done the smart thing and bought a commercial WordPress theme that matched the look they wanted. Then they hit the wall every commercial-theme buyer hits eventually: the demo isn't the actual experience, and getting it from "purchased" to "live and working as advertised" is more work than the marketplace listing suggested.
The setup work covered everything from initial configuration through to the small but important customisations a real business needs and a generic theme can't provide. The navigation was redesigned to fit the actual structure of their work rather than the demo's invented categories. Social sharing was added across the site so visitors could pass content along to their networks. Visual and structural refinements pulled the build closer to what Fred and Hannah originally had in mind.
The result is the website they thought they were buying when they purchased the theme — turned into something genuine and live, with the rough edges smoothed off.
